The final stretch of the project - the challenging part of getting everything recorded with the pressure of the videographers has passed and now it's time to do what is my favourite part of any project - collating and piecing everything together into the final submission!
Today was the big day... PA11 was booked from 6pm-11pm on Sunday 30th May. If there was any chance to get it completed in time on Friday, we really only had today to get it all recorded, otherwise we loose out on some potentially outstanding video. I was feeling nervous... despite doing a run through of the second movement a...
Week 15b - The Trial Run
No messing around this session - we had to write the second movement no matter how long it was going to take. This sort of pressure was what the majority of us in the group usually fed off when it comes to summative assessments. And it's not entirely a bad thing for people to have this trait - individuals who...
The week of the recording... exciting times.
Honestly, the content in the above video is quality. Some of it would be perfect on a MMus welcome video presentation. It really captures what fine reflective professional musical practioners we are becoming (1:15:34-1:17:38).
Week 13 - Structural Fixing
A relatively short post today - there wasn't a great deal of events that resembled any kind of epiphanies. It was more a troubleshooting day where we discovered problems and found ways to overcome them.
Week 12 - An Indian Summer
Today was a session full of epiphanies and turning points that changed the direction of the project in a hopefully positive manner.
This is the second of two case study posts that explore collaboration in a setting that is not related to this project. My hope from these case studies is that they will be useful for collaboration beyond the module in my own situations and that the theoretical concepts that I'm learning in this module can be linked to practitioners...
Week 10b - Guitar Rig Factor
After this week's session - we set some small yet achievable goals that would hopefully start next week's session off with ideas from the beginning. We started touching upon the concept of using the violin electronically rather than acoustically and in our session I had a realisation that I could use some software that I found out myself in...
Picture the scene - 18th April I was sipping on a lovely cocktail with my family in the peak district talking about my future plans as I turned the old age of 22. I hear a PING from my phone - it's only Dr T wishing me a Happy Birthday! Life is good.
Week 9 - Motivation
A nice short post this week. Not because of laziness (as I talk about below) but because I'm talking about breaks.
Easter break marks the half-way point on this module, so it's probably a good time to have a reflection on what this collaboration has so far lead to and my thoughts going forward. It certainly has been eye opening for myself and my peers. But first, our final online meeting for this module (hopefully!)...
Week 6 - Meeting with Dr T
This was it... the most daunting moment of the project to date.
It was going to happen at some point this module... egg on my face... given that I was calling out all my previous peers in my first blog post for not turning up on time for previous projects.
Week 5a - On the Right Track
Thoughts before today's session
Week 4 - Indulging in Zoom
From now on, Peer A will remain the same person and the musician that I previously referred to as Peer C will now be Peer B.
This is one of two case study posts that explore collaboration in a setting that is not related to this project. My hope from these case studies is that they will be useful for collaboration beyond the module in my own situations and that the theoretical concepts that I'm learning in this module can be linked to practitioners who are...
So this week we learn about the concept of a domain, field and person Csikszentmihalyi (1996)
Week 2 - Group Formation
This week was the chance to start thinking about which of my fellow peers would be the best to form a group with. From talking to previous Masters students, it seemed like this was going to be a long, arduous process of picking members and as mentioned at the beginning - I was feeling doubtful about the process. The...
Welcome to the official starting point for my Research Training Blog! Here you can read about my observations and thoughts throughout this module. You have the option to give your feelings after reading my posts and to post a comment (providing it will contribute towards Tom not failing me for this module).
As you can probably tell from the title, I'm not a massive fan of group projects. Don't get me wrong, some of my most successful group projects at university have resulted in some of my most enjoyable memories, however the postivity emitted from these projects have been equally dampened by projects that have been cumbersome and a pain to resolve....
